Don Jazzy opens up about love, marriage and faith, revealing fears of commitment, divorce and his evolving views on relationships and religion

Don Jazzy has opened up about his personal views on love, marriage, and faith, admitting that despite his success, he still battles fears about commitment and relationships.

The 42-year-old Mavin Records boss, who married in 2003 and divorced two years later, spoke candidly during an interview with HabbyFX on YouTube.

He reflected on how his understanding of love and relationships has evolved with age and experience.

“There are good ones, there are bad ones. My parents were madly in love before my mum died. We see examples like that that make you believe in relationships and crave it,” Don Jazzy said.

He explained that while love remains a beautiful thing, the negativity often displayed on social media about failed relationships has made him more cautious.

“You try to be vulnerable with one person out there. I am still waiting for God. They said when you find the one, you will have butterflies in your stomach,” he said.

The award-winning producer admitted that financial risks associated with marriage also contribute to his hesitation.

“A man has to lose half of all that he has worked for in his life — that’s those ones that don’t have a prenup, like in America,” he said. “All those things used to scare me. The money that I have amassed is for my generation.”

When asked if he was currently in love, Don Jazzy replied, “I’ve actually dated before. Currently, I’m single. Na fear, though God’s time is the best. I just want the right person. At the same time, I’m not sure if I’m the right person for somebody’s daughter.”

Reflecting on his personal growth, he added: “Am I disciplined enough to be with one person? As I am working on myself, I pray to God on how to make myself a better person.”

Beyond love and marriage, the producer spoke about his daily life and creative process, revealing that he now spends most of his time indoors — between his house, office, and studio — while delegating key responsibilities to his team.

He also shared his views on faith, clarifying that while he still believes in God, he has grown sceptical about organised religion.

“I believe in God, by birth. But nowadays, I get sceptical about churches with how things are now. But I believe in God,” he said.

Despite his fears and reservations, Don Jazzy’s honesty, humour, and humility continue to endear him to fans, reinforcing his image as one of Nigeria’s most grounded and relatable music icons.
