The Lagos State Government has reduced the tuition fee of new students of the Lagos State University, Ojo from N67,000 to N57, 000.

In 2020, the university management increased the fee for new students from N25,000 to N67,000.

Earlier in January, students of the school and the National Association of Nigerian Students asked the former vice-chancellor, Prof Olarenwaju Fagbohun, to reduce the fee before leaving office.

However, on Friday, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, in a telephone interview with our correspondent confirmed the development which was first announced on his Twitter handle.

“It is true that Mr Governor, who is the visitor to the university, after listening to representations from different stakeholders, including the students’ union, intervened by reducing the school fees from 67,000 to 57,000 for the Stream 1 freshers, while the old students will not have any form of increase.

Meanwhile, the Head of Information, Press and Public Affairs unit of LASU, Mr Ademola Adekoya, said the school management had not been officially informed.

“The government is yet to officially communicate with the university. Maybe by Monday, we will get the information. We only read it on the Twitter handle of the SA that it has been slashed but we don’t know the percentage. Is it 10 per cent, 15 per cent? We don’t know.

“We don’t have any official information from the special adviser yet,” he said.
