Dr Halima Zakari donates ₦30 million for hostel renovation and distributes books and sanitary items at FGC Kiyawa, Jigawa State

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] special morning assembly was held on Monday, 19 May 2025, at Federal Government College (FGC), Kiyawa, Jigawa State, to celebrate a remarkable gesture by Her Excellency, Dr Halima Suleiman Zakari.

Dr Zakari, in a humanitarian initiative aimed at improving the welfare of students, donated customised exercise books to all students and sanitary materials to female students.

In addition, she has approved a ₦30 million hostel renovation project, targeting the rundown Hadejia Hostel, Female Hostel, and Ringim Boys’ Hostel.

According to the school management, work on the renovation will begin immediately.

The intervention is expected to greatly improve the learning environment, promote hygiene among female students, and enhance comfort and well-being across the school community.

Speaking on behalf of the school, Vice Principal (Academic), Mr Sakwa Habu SB, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the intervention.

“The entire college community expresses profound gratitude to Her Excellency for her support and commitment to student development,” he stated.

The donation and renovation project come at a time when government schools continue to face infrastructure and welfare challenges.

Dr Zakari’s efforts are widely seen as a model for private-public support in education.
