Ebonyi Monarch Killing shocks community as gunmen kill HRH Jesophat Ikegwu in his palace, prompting police investigation and public concern
Unknown gunmen have killed the traditional ruler of Ishinkwor community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, His Royal Highness Jesophat Ikegwu, in a late-night attack at his palace.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the assailants reportedly invaded the monarch’s residence and shot him through a window.
The attack, described by local sources as sudden and coordinated, left the community in shock and fear.
The Ebonyi Monarch Killing has been confirmed by the Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, Ikechukwu Ogbofia, who condemned the incident and described it as a tragic loss to the community.
He urged residents to remain calm while security agencies work to uncover those responsible.
Police authorities in the state have also confirmed the killing.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, stated that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
The killing of HRH Jesophat Ikegwu adds to a growing pattern of violent attacks targeting traditional rulers in Ebonyi State.
With this latest incident, the number of monarchs killed in the state has risen to five, raising concerns over security in rural communities.
Last month, another traditional ruler in Ikwo Local Government Area was abducted and later killed, with his body reportedly set ablaze by his attackers.
Although several suspects were arrested in connection with that case, there has been little publicly known progress since then.
The latest attack has intensified calls for improved security measures and greater protection for community leaders who often serve as custodians of local governance and tradition.
