‘Edo election’ INEC officials kick over lack of payment

INEC Election Ballot 1

Some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have refused to attend to people who came to cast their ballots at the Edo governorship election

The officials at Ivbiyeneva primary school RAC ward 5 Ikpabo-okha local government area (LGA) told the AIT News that they decided to abandon their duties because they have not been paid stipends by INEC.

Some voters who came to polling units were seen standing without any electoral official attending to them.

The aggrieved INEC officials also said they would not go to their voting centres until their stipends are paid.

Meanwhile, Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, has finally voted during the ongoing governorship election in Edo state. Speaking after the voting, Obaseki expressed confidence in winning the election and urged the electorate to remain steadfast while protecting their votes.

Governor Obaeki, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is presently having a tough run with 13 other candidates including Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC).

In another report, the Edo state chapter of the APC has called the attention of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to the alleged malpractice in Akoko Edo.

In a tweet by the Edo APC on Saturday afternoon, September 19, the state opposition party alleged that its agent in Akoko Edo Ward 6 Unit 14 has been driven away by the agent of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

It further claimed that it is “PDP people” voting in the unit, describing the development as an attempt to rig out Pastor Ize-Iyamu who is the party’s flagbearer.
