Ekiti State gathered stakeholders for a historic engagement on its tourism policy, laying the foundation for economic and cultural growth.
[dropcap]O[/dropcap]n Tuesday, 19 November 2024, the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development hosted a landmark Stakeholders’ Engagement on the Ekiti State Tourism Policy at Lady Jibowu Hall, Governor’s Office, Ado Ekiti.
This pivotal workshop, led by Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre, Director General of the Bureau, attracted a wide array of stakeholders committed to transforming Ekiti into a premier tourist destination in Nigeria.

The gathering saw traditional rulers, government officials, tourism experts, hoteliers, students, youth leaders, and professionals from various sectors unite in support of tourism as a driver of economic growth, cultural preservation, and community development.
Opening the event, a cultural performance by St. Leo’s College, Ikere Ekiti, showcased Ekiti’s vibrant heritage and set an inspiring tone.
Ambassador Ojo-Lanre, in his address, underscored the rich tourism potential of Ekiti, from its lush landscapes and historic sites to cultural festivals, envisioning a future where the state stands as a national and international tourism hub.
“We are at the threshold of a transformative journey,” Ojo-Lanre remarked. “This engagement is a collaborative effort to establish Ekiti as a sought-after destination while empowering local communities.”
The Director General praised Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for prioritising tourism, including engaging Overseas Credit, a global consultancy, to design a robust and locally tailored tourism policy.
This policy focuses on sustainable development, infrastructure improvements, marketing strategies, and cultural preservation.
Stakeholders actively contributed to discussions, addressing infrastructure needs, marketing opportunities, and community involvement in tourism initiatives.
Distinguished attendees included traditional leaders such as Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe (Ewi of Ado Ekiti), government officials like Hon Franklin Olatunbosun (Commissioner for Information), and representatives from diverse organisations, including the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA) and Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Ambassador Ojo-Lanre called on all present to champion Ekiti’s tourism agenda. “Together, we can craft a future where Ekiti’s beauty and culture captivate the world while fostering prosperity for all.”
This historic event represents a defining moment for Ekiti State’s tourism ambitions, paving the way for impactful policies, strategic partnerships, and a brighter economic outlook.
