The landmark deal is set to transform the long-abandoned Heneke Integrated Farm into a world-class agro-industrial hub.
The agreement, signed on Tuesday at Government House, Enugu, formally establishes Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms Ltd — a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) that will oversee the rehabilitation and development of 10,000 hectares of land in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof.
Chidiebere Onyia, described the agreement as a turning point in Enugu’s economic transformation and agricultural renaissance.
“Today, we formalise a partnership that will breathe new life into the Enugu Songhai Initiative, transform abandoned assets into thriving agro-industrial hubs, and advance food security, regenerative development, and inclusive growth for Ndi Enugu,” the governor said.
Originally launched in 2013 but left incomplete, the farm will now be reimagined as a multi-sectoral agricultural ecosystem.
Plans include integrated crop and livestock production, aquaculture, agro-processing facilities, renewable energy systems, eco-tourism infrastructure, and a 25-hectare incubation centre for youth and women.
The Enugu agro-industrial project is projected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, drive export opportunities, and position Enugu as a national leader in sustainable agribusiness.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Patrick Ubru, praised the initiative’s potential to revolutionise both attitudes and output in agriculture.“We have the land, water, good soil, and the right people. This initiative will create thousands of jobs, boost food production, and change the mindset of our people,” he said.
Director of Songhai Sustainable Initiative, Prof. Godfrey Nzamujo, pledged the group’s expertise, calling the venture a model for strategic agriculture.
“We are committed to producing more and better with less,” he noted, adding that the project would blend sustainability, productivity, and human capital development.
From the private sector, CEO of Tribu Limited, Ozor Silas Nnamdi, committed both financial and operational support.
“We are going to build one of the best Songhai resorts in Africa. This project is proof that Nigeria can feed itself — and lead in eco-agro tourism,” he declared.
The Enugu agro-industrial project is underpinned by a robust governance structure to ensure transparency, legal compliance, and the long-term protection of public interest.
