Erik ten Hag under pressure at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag faces mounting pressure as Manchester United’s poor form sparks rumours of a managerial change. Tuchel reportedly a contender.

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]anchester United manager Erik ten Hag is under mounting pressure following the team’s recent struggles, including a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa, leaving United 14th in the Premier League.

With only one win in five matches, speculation is growing about a potential managerial change, with former Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel reportedly being considered as a replacement.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is facing intense pressure following the club’s 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on Sunday, a result that leaves the team sitting 14th in the Premier League table.

The Dutchman, who has been in charge since 2022, is now under serious scrutiny as United has managed only one win in their last five matches across all competitions.

The situation became more precarious after a 3-3 Europa League draw with Porto, where United squandered a 2-0 lead, followed by a 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

These disappointing performances have reportedly led the club’s hierarchy to consider a managerial change. ESPN reported last week that Ten Hag is in danger of losing his job, with the Europa League clash against Porto and Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Aston Villa seen as pivotal games.

Manchester Evening News further reported on Monday that former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is being lined up as a potential replacement for Ten Hag if the club opts to part ways with him.

Tuchel, who has been a free agent since leaving Bayern Munich in 2023, has been linked with United in the past, particularly following their underwhelming Premier League campaign last season.

A crucial meeting is set to take place in London on Tuesday, where Manchester United officials will discuss Ten Hag’s future. The Dutch manager is expected to meet with the board in the coming days to address the team’s poor start to the season.

Despite the growing speculation about his position, Ten Hag remained composed when asked about his future following the goalless draw at Villa Park.

He stated, “We communicate very openly and transparently. I talk with the club’s officials daily, and after every game, I focus on my job with the players. I expect to have discussions with the hierarchy soon.”

As Manchester United fans await the outcome of the meeting, the pressure continues to build on Ten Hag, with pundits and supporters wondering if the club is heading for a mid-season managerial shake-up.
