April 7 2025 nationwide protest in Nigeria

Adebayo Omisakin, an ex-convict recently pardoned by the governor, has been arrested again for stealing a plasma TV worth N600,000 in Osogbo

Omisakin, who was pardoned by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on December 24, 2024, had previously been convicted of simple offences and was granted a pardon alongside two other ex-convicts, Segun Olowookere and Sunday Morakinyo.

However, the 2025 new year saw Omisakin returning to crime, with a charge sheet revealing that he broke into a house in the Inudun Area of Osogbo on January 3, 2025, and stole a plasma TV worth N600,000.

The charge partly reads: “COUNT I: That you Adebayo Omisakin Sunday ‘m’ on the 3rd day of January 2025 at about 12:00 pm at the Al-medinat Area, Iludun in the Osogbo Magistrarial district did break and entered the house of one Shittu Damilare ‘m’ and steal one Plasma TV valued the sum of Six Hundred Thousand Naira (#600,000:00k) only.”

The accused faces charges under Section 411 (1)(2) and Section 383 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II, as well as Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

Following his arrest, Omisakin was arraigned on January 7, 2025, where he applied for bail. However, the prosecutor, Kayode Adeoye, opposed the application, and Magistrate A. Adeyeba ruled on January 10 to deny the bail request. Omisakin was remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre while the case continues.

The situation has raised questions regarding the effectiveness of the state pardon, with Omisakin’s return to criminal activities casting a shadow on the decision to grant pardons to ex-convicts.
