Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has told his manager that he is not enjoying the bit-part role he has been subjected to at the club.

He said he is not going to get used to that position after returning to the Red Devils’ starting XI on Saturday night against Reading.

The England international was picked in the starting lineup by Erik ten Hag in the Red Devils’ 3-1 win over the Royals in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Old Trafford.

Casemiro netted twice and Fred scored the third as the Red Devils saw off their visitors.

Maguire is in competition with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof for the centre-back position.

‘I’m working hard every day, I’m pushing, I’m training well, and when my chance comes I need to take it…”
