Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR, has apologised for the tension caused by his remarks during a campaign visit to the palace of Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, following the Osun State governorship election.

Fadahunsi said in a statement that his visit to the palace was primarily intended to seek justice and express his pain over the deaths of members of his political party.

The senator said his emotional appeal was subsequently portrayed by critics as a call for violence, a characterisation he strongly rejected.

Fadahunsi maintained that he never called for chaos or violence, describing the interpretation of his remarks as unfair.

According to the senator, the comments were made at a difficult moment when he was deeply affected by the deaths of party members.

He nevertheless acknowledged the tension that followed his remarks and offered an apology, stressing that the peace of Osun State and Ijesaland was more important than political disagreements.

“Because the peace of Osun State and Ijesaland in particular is far more important than any political dispute, victory, or defeat, I sincerely apologise for the tension that resulted from this misunderstanding,” Fadahunsi said.

The senator also commended Owa Haastrup for the way he handled the situation, describing the monarch’s response as calm, balanced and reflective of his position as a father to people across political divides.

Fadahunsi said the traditional ruler demonstrated wisdom by remaining composed despite claims that the senator’s remarks had been disrespectful to the institution.

He said the Owa’s intervention helped prevent the disagreement from escalating further at a sensitive time for the state.

The senator urged political leaders and their supporters to place the interests of the people above personal grievances and partisan differences.

Fadahunsi also appealed to residents and his supporters to embrace peace and contribute to healing following the election.

While apologising over the tension surrounding his palace remarks, he stressed that his demand for justice over the deaths of his party members remained unchanged.

He called on the Osun State Government and security agencies to investigate the reported killings thoroughly and ensure that anyone found responsible faces justice through lawful means.

Fadahunsi said the pursuit of justice should not become a reason for further confrontation, urging all sides to channel their grievances through peaceful and constitutional processes.

The senator concluded by calling for political differences to be set aside in the broader interest of peace, unity and stability across Osun State and Ijesaland.
