Contrary to reports flooding the media space that the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, after the suspension of Abdulrasheed Bawa is Mohammed Umar Abba, who was a former director of operations at the agency, Freelanews authoritatively reports that the new boss is Abdulkarim Chukkol.

Recall that President Tinubu suspended Bawa, who has submitted himself for interrogation by Nigeria’s secret police, the State Security Service (SSS).

Major newspapers in Nigeria, Freelanews not included, misinformed the public and erroneously claimed that Mohammed Umar Abba, has been appointed to oversee the affairs of the office of the EFCC Chairman.

However, a source close to the EFCC has informed Freelanews that the report is fake.

“Don’t mind them with their fake news, our director of operations by name Abdulkarim Chukkol is the acting chairman,” he said.

Chukkol got his BSc. from the University of Maiduguri from 1995-2000 and also studied at the FBI National Academy, Quantico before proceeding to the University of Virginia for a Postgraduate Diploma in Criminal Justice Education.
