A Nigerian food content creator has raised an alarm over the alleged use of detergent by some street egg sellers when boiling eggs for sale.
In a video shared online, the creator, identified as Potofflavours, warned members of the public to be careful when buying boiled eggs from roadside vendors.
She explained that a neighbour first told her some sellers add detergent to the water to prevent the eggs from cracking, make them boil faster and make the shells easier to peel.
Curious about the claim, she decided to investigate and reportedly spotted detergent among the items carried by an egg seller.
She later visited an area where some vendors boil their eggs and claimed she noticed a strong detergent smell, empty detergent sachets scattered around and foamy water in the cooking pot.
The creator admitted that she did not personally witness anyone adding detergent to the water, but said the signs raised serious concerns about food safety.
She urged Nigerians to exercise caution when purchasing boiled eggs from street vendors, noting that the practice may not be common among all sellers.
