FRSC deploys special patrols nationwide to manage traffic and enforce road safety rules during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration

As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Day, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the deployment of special patrol operations nationwide to ensure smooth traffic flow and strict compliance with road safety regulations.

The announcement was made by the Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, in his Independence Day goodwill message on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

According to the FRSC boss, the holiday period often sees increased vehicular and human movement, which requires proactive measures to prevent accidents and traffic gridlock.

“Independence anniversary celebration is one of the events in the FRSC’s operational calendar when we anticipate increased human and vehicular movements. Consequently, the Corps organizes special patrols to manage the traffic and ensure motorists conform to rules and regulations,” Biu said.

While acknowledging that this year’s celebrations may not include major national events, the Corps Marshal urged Nigerians to remain patriotic, peaceful, and safety-conscious.

“Everyone must adhere strictly to the laid down rules of the road and avoid acts capable of compromising safety,” he added.

Biu issued a stern warning to traffic violators, noting that any motorist caught breaking traffic laws during the period will have their vehicles impounded.

“We will not hesitate to impound vehicles found violating traffic regulations to serve as a deterrent,” he warned.

Key Safety Tips from FRSC:

  1.  Avoid overspeeding and dangerous overtaking
  2.  Do not drink and drive
  3.  Always wear seatbelts
  4.  Obey all traffic signals and officers
  5.  Ensure vehicles are roadworthy before travel

“This period offers an opportunity for Nigerians to rededicate themselves to nation-building, patriotism, and peaceful coexistence. Celebrate with prayers and caution,” the Corps Marshal said.

As Nigeria celebrates its 65th year of independence, the FRSC reiterates its commitment to reducing road traffic crashes and enhancing public safety.

Motorists are encouraged to cooperate fully with officers on duty and make safety a priority during the celebrations.
