The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, set out to make a major impact on Lagos and her citizens when he announced the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda in the early days of his administration.

T.H.E.M.E.S is an acronym for Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism and Governance and Security.

In the area of entertainment and tourism, the Sanwo-Olu-led administration has through the Lagos State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism, continued to engage experienced practitioners in forging a more robust system that not only boosts entertainment and tourism, but also supports practitioners through varied activities.

One of the individuals that have continued to work through the vision of Sanwo-Olu for entertainment and tourism in Lagos state is leading African film practitioner, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe.

The founder of the African Movie Academy Awards and Chief Executive Officer of the African Film Academy has been able to ensure the awards ceremony holds in Lagos for the next four years.

On her part, Anyiam-Osigwe has been building capacity in rural areas of Lagos, including Badagry, Epe, Alimosho and Ikorodu, through an innovative training programme called, ‘Film in a Box’, which she started over 19 years ago.

The capacity-building programme, has so far, trained several youths in filmmaking, make-up artistry, acting, editing, cinematography, and other sectors of the film industry.

The Lagos State government also set aside N200m as an interest-free loan for filmmakers.
