Ghana helicopter crash claims lives of Defence Minister, Environment Minister, and 6 others. National mourning declared following tragic Obuasi-bound flight

Ghana helicopter crash has plunged the nation into mourning following the deaths of eight individuals, including high-ranking government officials, in the southern Ashanti region on Wednesday.

Among the deceased are Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Minister of Environment Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, both prominent figures in the Ghanaian government.

The helicopter was en route from Accra to Obuasi, a well-known mining town, when the tragedy occurred.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed the fatalities in a public statement, listing additional victims as: Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

A national mourning period has been declared. Flags will fly at half-mast across the country in honor of the fallen leaders.

This devastating Ghana helicopter crash is one of the worst in recent national memory, shaking the core of the country’s political and security establishments.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are expected to begin immediately.
