Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu welcomed Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, discussing enhanced bilateral relations for development and economic growth.
[dropcap]L[/dropcap]agos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has stated that the State Government will continue to deepen bilateral relations with other regions to enhance development and foster economic growth for all residents.
He spoke on Friday during a courtesy visit by Grenada’s Prime Minister, Hon. Dickon Mitchell, at the Lagos House, Marina.
Prime Minister Mitchell was accompanied by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of Dangote Groups. During the visit, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the Grenadian Prime Minister for his leadership skills and called for more African-Caribbean partnerships in arts, culture, entertainment, tourism, and infrastructure development.
He said, “We commend and congratulate you for all the Caribbean nations to have given you the mantle of leadership right now. We believe it is apt, and you will lead the Caribbean countries very well. During your time, we will begin to see African-Caribbean relationships grow.”
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in Mitchell’s leadership, stating that it would benefit both Grenada and Caribbean nations. He added, “We are willing to advance relationships between us in the area of culture and how we get our people from Africa and Nigeria into the Caribbean. We are in discussions with an airline to facilitate this.”
The governor also highlighted the importance of deepening bilateral movement in arts, culture, and entertainment, noting that these areas are common between the two regions. He emphasized the potential to develop mineral resources and create a business ecosystem for both regions.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Alhaji Dangote for his audacious refinery project in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos, expressing optimism that Nigerians would be the major beneficiaries in the long run.
Earlier, Prime Minister Mitchell stated that his visit aimed to consolidate discussions with Governor Sanwo-Olu that took place during his visit to Grenada last year, focusing on trade and investment. He praised Nigeria’s achievements in agriculture, fashion, music, and cultural heritage, mentioning plans to improve logistics for the movement of goods and people between the two countries.
Mitchell also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Lagos, particularly for supporting the Dangote Refinery. The Prime Minister’s children and some aides were part of his entourage visiting Nigeria for the first time.
