The group accused two social media users operating on Facebook and X of deliberately altering official military information and circulating false claims regarding the origin of recovered Improvised Explosive Devices.
According to the guild, the individuals misrepresented the information by suggesting the devices were recovered from Lagos and Oyo States rather than Imo State.
In a statement, the guild described the actions as reckless and dangerous, warning that such misinformation could inflame ethnic tensions and undermine national cohesion.
It further alleged that the posts included derogatory remarks against Lieutenant Colonel Ayeni, labelling him in a manner it considered defamatory and capable of fuelling division.
The group characterised the conduct as a serious breach of public trust and a threat to national security, urging relevant authorities including the Federal Government, the Nigerian Police Force, and anti-corruption agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible.
It maintained that unchecked disinformation of this nature could erode confidence in official institutions.
The statement also commended the Nigerian Army for what it called its continued professionalism and resilience in maintaining security across the country.
It noted that the military’s efforts in combating threats such as insurgency and violent crime deserve public support rather than targeted misinformation campaigns.
Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni was further described as a disciplined and respected officer known for his communication role within the Army.
The guild highlighted his engagement with the media and public as a stabilising factor in civil military relations, describing him as a bridge between the armed forces and citizens.
