Veteran Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has openly stated his lack of interest in the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs), revealing he wasn’t invited to the recent 2025 edition and didn’t submit any films for consideration

[dropcap]V[/dropcap]eteran Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has made it clear that he holds no interest in the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs).

In a recent interview on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, recorded prior to the 2025 edition of the award show, the renowned actor openly expressed his disinterest in the widely celebrated event.

“I am not interested; I’m not interested at all,” Chatta stated emphatically, stressing that he had no intention of wishing for an award at the show,

particularly as he had not received an invitation to attend. “What would I pray for something that I’m not interested in? They didn’t invite me.”

According to the respected actor, his lack of participation stems from not submitting any of his films for consideration by the AMVCA organisers. He believes this is the primary reason why he was neither nominated nor invited to the event.

“Whenever I am interested in going to the AMVCA, I would make a film and submit that film so that I can be rated and so that they can check to see if I deserve the award or not. But I’ve not given them any film to nominate me for,” Chatta explained.

The actor also expressed some curiosity about not receiving an invitation, noting the presence of younger colleagues at the event.

“I ask myself why I haven’t even been invited, because I see younger people going. Maybe it’s because I’m not a very social person and apart from that, do you even know how many awards are sitting in my home?”

Chatta further revealed that he has received numerous awards from influential figures, including Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka, and fellow actor Odunlade Adekola.

He added that while he does receive recognition for his work, he simply does not publicise these accolades. “I’ve got awards from influential people, even Professor, Wole Soyinka. Odunlade who is a very sensible person awarded us. We get awards but we just don’t post.”
