The Federal Character Commissioner representing Ogun State at FCC, Rt. Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, has mourned Saturday’s demise of former military Governor and Administrator, Gen. Adetunji Olurin.

Akinlade in a condolence statement personally signed by him, said the death of the former MILAD is a big loss to Ogun State and Ogun West in particular.

General Olurin, who served as the military administrator of Oyo state, the General Officer Commanding the three armoured division and the ECOMOG field commander in Liberia, died on Saturday after a brief illness.

Olurin, who was also a former Sole Administrator of Ekiti State from October 8, 2006 until April 27, 2007, hailed from Ilaro in Ogun West Senatorial District of Ogun State.

He was the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in the 2011 general election in Ogun State.

While describing the late Olurin as a brilliant, iconic and courageous officer, he noted that the departed General stood to be counted when it mattered in Ogun State.

The statement reads, “With total submission to the wish of God, I mourn the death of one of our revered and best hands in Yewaland, Ogun state and Nigeria at large, General Adetunji Idowu Olurin.

” General Olurin through dedication, steadfastness and commitment served the nation at different capacities both within and outside the shores of the country.

” As a retired military head, politician, community leader, his usual contribution to the service of our dear state and the nation will sorely be missed.

” As ECOMOG commander, Military administrator of repute, General Olurin participation in politics was indication of his desire to contribute his quota to the development if our dear state and Nigeria in general.

” I join to commiserate with the Nigeria Army and his immediate family over the death of a fine soldier and illustrious son who has brought glory and pride through selfless service. I pray God give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
