Pa Reuben Fasoranti, a foremost Yoruba and former Afenifere leader, has insisted that the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate in the next year’s general election, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is the Afenifere’s preferred candidate.
Recall that the Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, kicked against the endorsement of Tinubu and tagged it diversionary.
In an interview with Pa Fasoranti, the elderly man reiterated that he’s still the leader of Afenifere.
Note that Adebanjo took over as the leader of Afenifere in March 2021 after Fasoranti stepped down from the leadership of the pan-Yoruba group during a meeting held at his residence.
However, Pa Fasoranti said that Pa Adebanjo only took a stand.
“I’m still the leader of Afenifere,” Pa Fasoranti declared.
When asked if Afenifere was endorsing Peter Obi of the Labour Party as the presidential candidate, the Yoruba leader was emphatic in his response.
“No. We’re endorsing Jagaban; as you can see the trend, the following and the approval and his ability.
“You can see what happened yesterday and as also reported in the media (referring to the endorsement of Tinubu by Afenifere),” the aged man said.
When asked if Pa Adebanjo warned him not to welcome the APC candidate, Pa Fasoranti laughed.
“Can he do that? Can he do that successfully?
“He didn’t warn me not to do that. He took a stand and I took mine.
“It goes without saying that Jagaban is accepted and we approve of him,” Pa Fasoranti concluded.
