The first generation of Samsung microLED TV is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2020 but things are said to be getting quite tense behind the scenes, according to a new report out of Samsung’s home country.

Samsung has been showing off its microLED TVs, also known as the Wall, over the past year. It introduced the 88 and 150-inch models at the Consumer Electronics Show 2020 back in January. It intends to launch the microLED TVs in the second half of this year as initially planned.

The modular Micro LED TV, dubbed The Wall, will be offered in 75, 88, 93 and 110-inches for the home as well as in 150 and 292-inches for home theatre setups.

The 88-inch and 150-inch models will come with an “ultra-slim design” and be bezel-less. Being modular, the TVs can also be combined to make different shapes, Samsung said.

Samsung first introduced MicroLED TVs at CES 2018, and since then, has offered TV models ranging from 75, 146, 219, and 292-inches that use this technology. The smaller panels remained prototypes so far, however. The company has only sold the larger models in luxury models and aimed at the enterprise sector.

Micro LED TVs use individual micrometer-sized LED modules as singular pixels. Much like OLEDs, it emits light on its own to provide a superior contrast ratio compared to conventional LCD TVs. However, their production remains extremely expensive, and Samsung is yet to announce pricing for its new models.

Samsung also showed off the 2020 iterations of its QLED 8K TVs. These will come in what the firm calls an “infinity design” where the TVs are completely bezel-less. They will also come with an object-tracking sound feature.

They will also come with an artificial intelligence processor, called AI Quantum Processor 8K, that will upscale non-8K content to 8K, it added.

The company also said it would begin global sales of its lifestyle TV model, Sero, which can pivot between horizontal and vertical orientations, and was previously only sold in South Korea.

MicroLED technology transfers micrometer-scale LEDs into LED modules, resulting in what resembles wall tiles comprised of mass-transferred clusters of almost microscopic lights. Mounted together as a uniform canvas and plugged in, they create a visual experience similar to what you get with premium QLED TVs. In an increasingly competitive environment, unique is hard to come by. Until now. The Wall offers an immersive and exclusive experience, delivering memorable content and illuminating the value of your business in profound ways.

The TV is designed to be the epitome of limitless freedom to create next generation experiences and powerful customer connections. Engineered for longevity, modular in configuration and streamlined installation, The Wall offers an unrivaled ownership experience.

Samsung’s The Wall showcases vision with an immersive experience that commands attention, from high-level boardroom presentations to high-end store merchandising. Experience cutting-edge innovation with microLED technology. The Wall’s industry leading picture quality engine—advanced HDR picture refinement, HDR10+ and more—possesses an intuitive capability to render optimum peak brightness and extremely accurate grayscale expression for true-to-life imagery. A fine choice for the finest of places. The Wall microLED display truly becomes a bold, yet subtle and sophisticated centerpiece to capture attention.

The Wall’s performance shows no compromise. Robust durability against everyday impacts with shock-resistant technology, plus superior energy efficiency, results in reliable performance with long-lasting quality.
