Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will meet at Principality Stadium in Cardiff on December 11, 2026, for their long-awaited all-British heavyweight showdown, with the venue confirming the fight after weeks of negotiations.

The announcement brings an end to years of speculation surrounding a meeting between two of Britain’s most recognisable heavyweight boxers.

The 36-year-old Joshua and 37-year-old Fury both entered the fight after returning to action in July, setting the stage for what promises to be a major night for British boxing.

Fury stopped 46-year-old Mariusz Wach in the seventh round in Pattaya, Thailand. The bout was staged in front of about 1,500 spectators and was not televised.

Joshua’s comeback was more dramatic. The former world champion was knocked down twice in the opening round by Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, before recovering to stop Prenga in the second round.

The victory was Joshua’s first fight since the road accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of his close friends Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

Joshua and promoter Eddie Hearn had previously expressed a preference for Wembley Stadium as the venue for the long-awaited contest.

The Cardiff agreement instead brings the fight to Principality Stadium, which has officially described the event as the biggest boxing occasion of the year.

The venue, located on Westgate Street in central Cardiff, has extensive experience hosting major sporting events and previously staged Joshua’s 2017 heavyweight bout against Carlos Takam.

The December meeting is also significant because of the contrasting stages of the two fighters’ careers.

Joshua, a two-time former unified heavyweight champion, has spent recent years rebuilding after defeats and major changes around his career.

Fury, meanwhile, has maintained his status as one of the division’s leading names while repeatedly being linked with Joshua during a long-running saga that never reached the ring.

Hearn has previously described the fight as hugely important to Joshua’s career.

After Pat Brown’s victory over John Hedges on September 19, Hearn said Joshua’s “whole career comes down to this” fight.

“There is a desperation to win this fight and this is why sport is the greatest. I’ve never wanted to win a fight so badly,” Hearn said.

The Joshua Fury Cardiff showdown now gives both men a definitive opportunity to settle one of the most persistent rivalries in modern heavyweight boxing.

For fans, the December 11 date represents the culmination of years of negotiations, changing plans and postponed expectations.

The Principality Stadium announcement confirms that the wait is finally over, with Joshua and Fury set to share the ring in Cardiff for one of the sport’s most anticipated all-British encounters.
