Bandits kill 11 in deadly Katsina village attack

Police confirm a Katsina village attack that left 11 dead and two injured, with security forces intensifying efforts to track suspects

The Katsina State Police Command, led by Police Public Relations Officer Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, on Monday, April 28, 2026, in Katsina State, confirmed a deadly attack by suspected bandits at Gurbi Village in Kankara Local Government Area, leaving 11 people dead and two others injured.

Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu said the attackers struck at about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, opening fire on unsuspecting residents and killing victims on the spot.

He stated that the assailants fled as security forces advanced towards the scene following a distress call.

The police spokesman confirmed that a joint security team, including personnel from the police, military, and other agencies, responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to retreat.

He added that the injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment, while the deceased were buried according to Islamic rites.
