The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Kano, as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The visit was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan.
According to the statement, Obasanjo, who is in Kano on an official assignment, received Kwankwaso at his temporary residence in the state.
“His Excellency, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, PhD, FNSE, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, this night paid a courtesy visit to a statesman and former President of Nigeria, His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, at his temporary residence in Kano,” the statement read.
Kwankwaso was accompanied by the NDC’s governorship candidate for Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.

The statement said the meeting provided an opportunity for warm exchanges between the political leaders but did not disclose the details of their discussions.
The visit comes amid increasing political consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, neither Kwankwaso’s camp nor Obasanjo’s associates indicated that the meeting was connected to any political alliance, endorsement or electoral strategy.

Obasanjo, who has remained an influential figure in Nigeria’s political landscape since leaving office in 2007, has frequently hosted political leaders across party lines, particularly during periods preceding major elections.
The meeting is expected to fuel political discussions, although both camps have maintained that it was a courtesy visit.
