The Kwara State Government has approved the implementation of the backlog of promotions for civil servants and workers in state-owned agencies, bringing long-awaited career progression and financial relief to thousands of public sector employees.
The approval, granted by Governoar AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, takes effect from September 1, 2026, with beneficiaries set to begin receiving the financial benefits attached to their new grade levels.
The decision covers eligible officers across the core civil service as well as government agencies, boards and parastatals whose promotions had remained outstanding.
The state government said the measure reflects its commitment to rewarding diligence, strengthening the public service and improving workers’ welfare through timely recognition of career advancement.
According to the government, the implementation of the promotion backlog is expected to boost staff morale and enhance productivity across ministries, departments and agencies by ensuring that qualified officers receive the entitlements due to them.
The financial benefits attached to the promotions will be reflected from September 1, bringing salary adjustments in line with the affected workers’ upgraded positions.
The approval comes as the AbdulRazaq administration continues a series of public service reforms aimed at improving governance, workforce motivation and the efficiency of government institutions.
Labour stakeholders have repeatedly advocated the clearance of outstanding promotions, arguing that delayed career progression affects employee motivation, pension growth and overall service delivery.
The Kwara State Government said it remains committed to building a professional and motivated workforce capable of delivering quality public services to residents, adding that workers’ welfare will remain a priority of the administration.
The implementation of the promotions is expected to provide renewed confidence within the state’s civil service as beneficiaries begin to enjoy both the professional recognition and financial rewards associated with their advancement.
