Lagos tanker crash kills dispatch rider under Cele Bridge as driver flees, prompting investigation by authorities
A dispatch rider has died after being crushed by a diesel tanker along the Cele Bridge corridor of the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, as the driver fled the scene.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed that its officials responded swiftly to the Lagos tanker crash, securing the area to prevent further accidents on the busy route.
According to the agency, the HOWO tanker, marked RBC 38 XF, rammed into the motorcycle while in motion, trapping the rider beneath the vehicle. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene.
Officials immediately cordoned off the crash site using safety cones and caution tape to manage traffic and avert secondary collisions.
The tanker was impounded by authorities, while the driver reportedly absconded after realising the severity of the incident.
Operatives from the Nigeria Police Force later arrived to take over the investigation. The deceased, the tanker and the damaged motorcycle were handed over for further action.
The victim’s body was subsequently recovered and moved to a morgue in Yaba.
Reacting to the fatal incident, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki described the development as distressing and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki called for a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the crash, stressing the need to bring those responsible to justice.
