Liverpool suffered a 4-1 Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven at Anfield, extending their worst run in decades and intensifying pressure on Slot

Liverpool’s Champions League campaign and Premier League form took another blow as PSV Eindhoven swept to a 4-1 victory at Anfield on Wednesday, leaving the Reds reeling.

The Dutch visitors opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Virgil van Dijk handled the ball in the penalty area, allowing Ivan Perisic to convert from the spot.

Dominik Szoboszlai equalised for Liverpool shortly after, but the effort failed to spark a revival.

Second-half goals from Guus Til and Couhaib Driouech, who scored twice, compounded Liverpool’s misery, marking their ninth defeat in 12 matches across all competitions—their worst sequence since the 1953-54 season.

Fans expressed their frustration with jeers at the final whistle.

Liverpool have now lost three successive games, conceding ten goals in the process, and have slipped to 12th in the Premier League, marking the first time in more than a decade the champions have been in the bottom half.

The defeat also puts their progression to the Champions League last 16 in jeopardy after two losses in five group-stage matches.

Manager Arne Slot admitted feeling “guilty” over the team’s slump but struggled to provide solutions.

The side’s frailties were exposed repeatedly as PSV capitalised on counterattacks, defensive errors and poor finishing.

Key moments included van Dijk conceding the penalty and a series of mistakes that allowed Driouech to score twice in the second half.

Despite some attacking opportunities, Liverpool were unable to convert pressure into goals, with goalkeeper Matej Kovar making crucial saves.

The defeat marked the first time an English team has lost at home to PSV since 2008, underscoring Liverpool’s unravelling form.

Liverpool now face West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday, with pressure mounting on Slot as fans demand accountability.

The club must recover quickly to preserve any remaining hopes of defending their league title and progressing in Europe.
