Marc Cucurella transfer deal moves closer as Real Madrid reportedly agree a £55m deal with Chelsea for the Spanish defender
Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement with Chelsea FC to sign Spanish defender Marc Cucurella in a deal worth £55 million ($63 million) following the FIFA World Cup.

The 27-year-old left-back is expected to bolster Real Madrid’s defensive options as the club continues its squad rebuild after two seasons without winning a major trophy.
Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 after progressing through the youth ranks of FC Barcelona and later establishing himself at Getafe CF.
His reported move forms part of a broader recruitment drive overseen by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who recently appointed Jose Mourinho as head coach after securing re-election earlier this month.
The Marc Cucurella Transfer Deal is expected to add experience and depth to Mourinho’s squad as the club looks to reclaim domestic and European honours.
Real Madrid have also been linked with several high-profile additions.
Reports suggest the club are preparing to sign Ibrahima Konate when his contract with Liverpool FC expires, while interest has also been reported in Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan.
For Chelsea, the departure would mark the end of a mixed spell for Cucurella at Stamford Bridge.
Despite helping the club win the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Conference League in 2025, the defender endured an inconsistent period during a challenging era for the London side.
Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League last season, a disappointing outcome that triggered significant scrutiny of the club’s direction and management decisions.
Cucurella was among those who publicly questioned Chelsea’s decision to dismiss former manager Enzo Maresca in January.
The Spanish international still had two years remaining on his Chelsea contract, but the reported agreement suggests both clubs have found common ground on a transfer that could become one of the most significant defensive moves of the summer window.

If completed, the move would see Cucurella return to Spanish football for the first time since leaving Getafe and provide Real Madrid with a proven international defender as Mourinho begins a new chapter at the Santiago Bernabéu.
