After the federal government of Nigeria announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria, the country president’s aides have started birthing and announcing their new social media platforms as new mode of communication.
First to jump the Twitter ship was the Personal Assistant to the President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad.
He had earlier before the announcement sent an encrypted message about the fate of the micro-blogging site by simply posting ‘Twitter Nigeria’
And immediately after, Ahmad announced to his over 915k followers the alternative social media platforms he could be reached and implored them to follow him.
The Nigerian government has suspended Twitter operations in the country because of a spat the duo had over the former’s responsible usage of social media platform.
Recall that many Nigerians flooded the social media space on Wednesday to criticise the country’s president following Twitter’s removal of his controversial tweet many believed was targeted at Igbo-dominated South-eastern region of the country.
The reactions to Twitter’s verdict had shot Mr Buhari to the position of the second most trending Nigerian topics on the microblogging site as of the time of filing this report on Wednesday.
Twitter deleted Mr Buhari’s tweet which was seen as a veiled threat to the South-east region.
He issued the threat in reaction to escalating violence across Nigeria, especially in the region.
“Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” he wrote on Tuesday.
Furore
The president’s tweet generated furore as many Nigerians accused Mr Buhari of making a comment which opened the wounds of the Nigerian civil war which claimed millions of lives.
However, reactions have continued to trail the government’s decision as many Nigerians slam the government.
The popular social critic, Segun Awosanya, also known as SEGALINK, wondered why the FG suspended Twitter through the same micro-blogging site.
“It is only in Nigeria that Govt will suspend Twitter Operations using their handle on Twitter to communicate same. Only God will save us in this country,” he wrote.
His post has garnered several responses and retweets, where many had called the government names.
