Meta teen Facebook accounts launch globally with built-in safety tools, aiming to expand access while protecting younger users online

The Meta teen Facebook accounts feature has now been rolled out worldwide, as the tech giant opens up its flagship social media platform to younger users—with a strong emphasis on privacy, safety, and content moderation.

In a major shift, Meta announced the global activation of teen Facebook accounts, allowing users aged 13 to 17 to create and manage accounts under a controlled digital environment.

The move follows months of regional testing and a growing push to make social media more accessible—but safer—for minors.

According to Meta, teen accounts will come with default privacy settings, restricted search visibility, and curated content feeds to reduce exposure to harmful or age-inappropriate material.

Direct messaging from unknown adults will be automatically limited, and time management tools will be integrated to encourage healthier online habits.

“We want teens to connect, explore, and learn in a safe space. These new features are designed to protect their well-being while still offering the best of Facebook,” Meta said in a statement.

The launch of Meta teen Facebook accounts comes at a time when social media platforms are under increasing scrutiny for how they engage with younger users.

Governments and watchdog groups worldwide have urged platforms to adopt stronger safeguards and greater transparency in handling teen data.

Meta claims the platform’s new tools were developed in collaboration with child safety experts, mental health professionals, and policymakers, aiming to strike a balance between access and responsibility.

“We’ve built these features to be robust and adaptive. As the digital landscape evolves, so will our approach,” Meta added.

While the move has drawn cautious praise from some advocacy groups, others argue that the company must remain vigilant, especially in preventing algorithmic harm and potential exploitation.

Meta says it will continue monitoring usage and feedback as part of an ongoing improvement cycle.

The global rollout of Meta teen Facebook accounts marks a key moment in the platform’s evolution, reflecting both the demand for youth-friendly digital spaces and the urgent need for safe, meaningful online engagement.
