Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has accused certain individuals in Nigeria of impeding the advancement of the power sector for their selfish interests. Adelabu made these remarks during the inauguration of the 63 MVA, 132/33kV mobile station in Ajah, Lagos State.
Addressing the audience, Adelabu acknowledged the challenges posed by resistance and distractions but expressed confidence that the completion of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) projects would showcase significant improvements in the sector. He emphasized the importance of transparency, stating, “Nigerians should not be cheated,” and distinguished the new tariff as “service reflective” rather than “cost-reflective.”
Furthermore, Adelabu mandated that all Distribution Companies (Discos) ensure a minimum of 20-24 hours of electricity supply before implementing the N225/kwh tariff. He warned of severe penalties for non-compliance, stating that Discos would face substantial fines for failing to meet this requirement.
