A nursing mother has been arrested in Owerri, Imo State, for allegedly attempting to sell her baby for ₦1.5 million.
The incident occurred on Monday night, November 2, 2026. According to Imo-based journalist Chidiebube Okeoma, he was contacted by an individual who claimed to have overheard the woman expressing her intention to sell the child.
Okeoma advised the individual to pretend to be interested in the purchase and arranged a meeting at Rock View, near the Imo State Police Headquarters.
Upon arriving at the location, Okeoma drove the woman and the contact person to the police station.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly blamed another woman for encouraging her to sell the baby. The second woman denied the allegation.
The nursing mother reportedly claimed she considered selling the child because she did not know the baby’s father and lacked the financial means to care for the infant.
Both women are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
