Rapper Ms Jorji has sparked controversy with remarks in which she claimed that most wealthy Nigerian men are HIV carriers and “walking STDs.”
Speaking on a recent podcast appearance that has circulated widely on social media, the Nigerian-born artist said she had lost significant amounts of money after refusing to engage in unprotected sex with some wealthy men.
“Most wealthy Nigerian men are HIV carriers and walking STDs. I’ve lost a lot of money because I refused to sleep with them without protection,” she stated.
The comments, which form part of a broader discussion on transactional relationships and personal experiences, have drawn mixed reactions online. Some users described the statement as an overgeneralisation, while others debated the importance of safe sex practices.
Public health experts have long emphasised that HIV and other sexually transmitted infections do not discriminate on the basis of wealth or social status. Regular testing, condom use and open communication remain the most effective ways to reduce risk.
Ms Jorji’s remarks remain her personal opinion and have not been supported by any official health data or statistical evidence linking wealth to higher rates of HIV among Nigerian men.
