Ghanaian actress and fashion personality Nana Akua Addo has been seen confronting her husband, Harold Norman, in a viral video amid allegations of domestic abuse involving the couple.
In the footage circulating online, Addo is heard protesting as her husband allegedly physically handles their daughter. She accuses him of treating the child in a manner similar to how she says he has allegedly treated her.
The disturbing footage has generated widespread reactions on social media, with viewers expressing concern over the welfare of Addo and her children. However, the full circumstances surrounding the videos have not been independently established.
The development comes amid a wider domestic dispute involving the couple. Other videos circulating online have shown Addo with a swollen lip, facial injuries and blood-stained clothing, prompting allegations that she had been assaulted by her husband.
Addo has also spoken about alleged abuse in her marriage, claiming that her husband imposed a curfew on her and assaulted her when she returned home after 10pm. She further alleged that she had endured the situation for years while trying to build the financial capacity to leave the marriage.
Norman, however, has denied allegations that he assaulted his wife. Through his lawyers, he alleged that Addo had also been violent towards him and claimed that the injuries seen in some of the circulating footage did not result from an assault by him. Those counterclaims have not been independently verified.
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that the matter is under investigation. According to the Criminal Investigations Department, Addo petitioned the CID Director-General on August 20, alleging that Norman had subjected her to physical, emotional and economic abuse.
Police said Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27 and later granted police enquiry bail with two sureties on August 29 while investigations continued. The authorities also disclosed that an earlier case involving the couple had been handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July.
Norman was scheduled to appear in court on October 7, but police said his lawyer informed them that he had been admitted to hospital. Investigators from DOVVSU subsequently visited the hospital to verify the claim and are monitoring the situation.
The Police said Norman will be arraigned immediately after his discharge from hospital. It also said it was working with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to provide social welfare services for Addo and her children.
Meanwhile, Addo’s legal representatives have urged the media and the public to stop sharing leaked videos involving her and her children, particularly footage showing a minor. The lawyers said the matter is before the appropriate authorities and asked for privacy for the family while the investigation continues.
