The centre aims to bring learning directly to communities, ensuring no Nigerian is left behind.
Speaking at the inauguration, Vice-Chancellor Professor Olufemi Peters, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Shehu Usman Adamu, described the centre as a “monument of hope” and a symbol of the university’s commitment to lifelong learning.
He praised the generosity of Architect Sir Dipo Ajayi, a son of the community, who donated the building for the project.
“This centre is about expanding the frontiers of education, rekindling hope, and celebrating one man’s vision that will benefit generations,” Professor Peters said.
He highlighted that the facility would serve civil servants, artisans, teachers, entrepreneurs, and retirees, providing flexible learning opportunities aligned with NOUN’s mission.
Professor Olubukola Oyawoye, NOUN Consultant for the centre, emphasised that the project reflects the power of visionary leadership and community partnership.
She noted that the centre offers a full range of courses and will empower local learners to transform their lives through knowledge.
Sir Dipo Ajayi expressed gratitude to God, NOUN management, and the Ilupeju community, dedicating the centre to his late mother and celebrating collective effort.
He described the initiative as a testament to education as a right, not a privilege.
The Apeju of Ilupeju-Ekiti, Oba David Sunday Awe, welcomed the centre, noting its potential to enhance both educational and economic development in the town.
State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and other dignitaries were recognised for their support with awards of appreciation during the event.
