From day one of this project, it was stated that it is a joint venture with Ethiopian Airline so! I do not understand the tone of the condemnation based on registration number.
I see people from/in Shell, Chevron, Mobil etc that are supposed to be grounded on JV matters still talking from the either side of the coin.
Will Mobil not use the NNPC and Mobil flag/logo as identification on all their brands?
Please let’s face the main issue(s) of the JV clauses and terms of conditions and encourage to make it work before probably buying out their shares.
Remember, same way they privatised the refineries and some other government entities with focus on rejuvenating them, but what did we see revocation of licences based on sentiments like, they sold it to themselves, they did not sell it at the right prices, my people are not on the board etc. Today we are crying and ranting on why we cannot make the refineries work.
If globally, it is said that government does not have business in business, what does that mean?
Globally, it is either, JV. Collaboration etc.
The issue here, which I responded to was Aircraft registration number and not the processes and procedures that got the contract
Example: In Nigeria, Mobil/Shell/Chevron etc. can’t push their brands without putting NNPCL logos. The Joint Venture arrangement is NNPCL 60%, JV PARTNER 40%.
Yet the companies are still in business neglecting local bottlenecks.
I am sure you know what is called best practices and you are encouraged to leverage on it to minimise rework of what’s in the global space.
Same way you are encouraged to do lessons learnt from the industry.
Doing business with Ethiopian Air is not out of place if we can do business with MultiChoice.
Nigeria can afford to drill the oil wells but some risks are better shared.
We need to change our mindset to understand that we need to start what ever will improve our standard of living even if we stumbled at the beginning, we can only continue to improve.
NEPA (PHCN) was privatised and we are grumbling but we are trying to improve upon it, which has led to the new bill signed allowing states to provide energy.
Let us be realistic in our criticism.
Regards.
