Nigerian Army investigation Akwa Ibom ongoing into the death of 13-year-old Timothy Daniel. Public urged to avoid speculation pending findings
The Nigerian Army’s 2 Brigade in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has launched an investigation into the death of 13-year-old Timothy Daniel, urging the public to avoid speculation.

The incident occurred on January 1, 2026, in Ette, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area. Reports indicate that Daniel was allegedly shot by a soldier attached to Sterling Petrochemical and Fertiliser Limited.
The soldier reportedly fired after the minor attempted to prevent sexual advances towards his 15-year-old sister, Miracle Daniel, though authorities caution that investigations are ongoing.
Capt. Lawal Muhammad, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, said no conclusions had yet been reached and that the investigation is being conducted according to standard procedures.
He urged the public to refrain from speculation or commentary that could compromise the investigative process. Muhammad assured that the outcome would be made public once the probe is concluded.
The Army expressed sympathy and condolences to the family of the deceased.
Muhammad reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to professionalism, strict adherence to rules of engagement, and accountability.

“The Nigerian Army expresses its sincere sympathy and condolences to the family and loved ones of Timothy Daniel and commiserates with them over their loss. We pray for the repose of his soul,” the statement read.
