Outrage in Nigeria after UK-based immigrant posts video humiliating a Nigerian man, prompting calls for UK Home Office intervention

A video showing a UK-based Nigerian allegedly humiliating a man in Nigeria has sparked widespread outrage online, prompting calls for intervention from the UK Home Office.

The video, widely shared on social media, shows a man kneeling on the floor while another individual gestures as if stepping on his head.

Observers described the act as dehumanising and a dangerous precedent, particularly for vulnerable individuals.

Social media users condemned the incident, noting the apparent abuse of privilege by the UK-based individual, identified as Alabi.

Twitter user Tormentor wrote, “Alabi flew from UK to come for a user who might have talked about his wife… Na nonsense be this sha.” The clip has received over 290,000 views in just a few hours.

Legal analyst and commentator Ayo Elesho urged Nigerians to use official channels to address online defamation and cyberbullying.

Elesho highlighted the risk of vigilante-style actions, stating, “When any aggrieved person can pick up the next person using a respectable institution like the police, it sets a dangerous precedent for politicians and elites.”

Elesho added that the dehumanising treatment depicted in the video was unacceptable, emphasising that no individual should be subjected to such acts before being pronounced guilty by a competent court.

He tagged the UK Home Office, urging it to uphold its mandate to protect vulnerable people.

The incident has ignited a heated debate about accountability, social media ethics, and the responsibilities of diaspora Nigerians when engaging with their home country.
