In one of their usual banters, Mara tried convincing Lawyer Boss that he was of the opinion that poor emolument was responsible for the police’s unholy love for money.
Mara: I think the police officers are really under paid . Totally underpaid.
Lawyer Boss: Even if you pay them millions. Na dem blood the thing dey.
Let me give you this gist. I had a client back in 2010 who always had issues with police. We went back and forth on the matter and we coughed out N2.5mln. After collecting the money and sharing amongst themselves, we had to go to Ikoyi where the client stayed to get his passport as part of bail condition.
But since it was a Friday evening, I informed the two policemen following us to Ikoyi that we will not come back with them to Panti, so they will have to sort themselves through the traffic.
The police officers asked two bike men to follow the car all the way from Panti to Ikoyi. On getting there, I gave the bike men N5k each so they could take the policemen back to Panti.
Do you know that right in my presence, the police took back N4k from each of the bike men, left them with N1k and still followed the bike guys back to Panti. That is police for you.
