NiMet weather forecast predicts rain, thunderstorms, and dust haze across Nigeria, urging authorities and residents to prepare for possible floods

NiMet weather forecast has alerted Nigerians to varying weather conditions across the country between Monday and Wednesday, including dust haze, rainfall, and thunderstorms.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) cautioned of possible flooding in parts of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River States, urging local authorities to activate emergency response measures.

Motorists were also advised to exercise care in rainy conditions, while residents in vulnerable areas should stay alert.

On Monday, NiMet predicted slight dust haze with good visibility over Borno, Zamfara, northern Kaduna, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina States.

Isolated thunderstorms with light rain were expected in Taraba and Adamawa in the afternoon or evening.

Central states, including the FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi, will experience sunny skies with intermittent clouds and possible light rain later in the day.

Southern states were expected to start with cloudy conditions, followed by isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall in Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.

By the afternoon, moderate thunderstorms were forecast across Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.

On Tuesday, northern states will continue to experience dust haze with good visibility, while Taraba and Adamawa may see isolated thunderstorms throughout the day.

Central states are forecast sunny with intermittent clouds and possible thunderstorms in Benue, FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi.

Southern regions will face moderate rainfall, particularly in Rivers, Cross River, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom, intensifying later.

By Wednesday, the north will have sunny skies, with light rain in Taraba. The central region will experience sunny skies and patchy clouds, with isolated light rain over Kogi and the FCT.

The south will see cloudy mornings and moderate afternoon thunderstorms in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom.

NiMet also advised people with asthma or respiratory conditions to limit outdoor exposure due to dust particles in the northern region.

Airline operators were urged to consult airport-specific weather updates, while the public was encouraged to follow the agency’s official channels for ongoing updates.
