Jibola Oderinde, a civil servant, has narrated how Jumia, an online market, held on to his N70,284 after cancelling his order.

Oderinde said that on March 11, he ordered two wireless modules on Jumia but the site cancelled the order days after confirming it. Since then, Jumia has not refunded him.

“I ordered two wireless modules, but Jumia cancelled the order some days after it was confirmed. They sent me a mail informing me that they had processed my refund but I wasn’t refunded. I called their customer care several times, but I was told that they would escalate it,” he said.

Oderinde also said though Jumia claimed to have refunded him, he is yet to receive the money.

“On May 16, I received another mail informing me that the refund was processed and that I should check with my bank. I responded that they had to provide me with a proof of payment to present at the bank,” said Oderinde.

“They promised to get back to me but till now, I haven’t received any proof of payment. I have made several calls and sent emails and calls but it is still the same story.”

At press time, FIJ’s e-mail to Jumia had not been responded to.
