Following the murder of the abducted All Progressives Congress chairman, Philip Shekwo, the ruling party has demanded immediate justice for the dead and his family.
Recall that at about 10:pm on Saturday, some suspected kidnappers invaded the residence of the APC chairman in Nasarawa State and took him away to an unknown destination.
The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, Bola Longe, confirmed this on Sunday to The PUNCH at the deceased residence in Bukan Sidi, Lafia Local Government Area of the state.
The police boss said the circumstances that led to the death of the APC chairman indicated that it was not all about kidnapping, but that the yet-to-be-identified attackers may have been assassins.
He said, “From what we have seen since yesterday and the intensity of bullet marks on the wall of the house and the forceful gaining of entrance into the house proved that it was much more than kidnapping.”
“And where we found his body, close to his house, normally when kidnapping is carried out it is for profit-making, but this has shown that within a twinkling of an eye the man was killed, no demand was made whatsoever,” Longe added.
He continued, “So, I believed it was an assassination, but that notwithstanding, we are going to carry out an exhaustive investigation that will give us a clue to what actually happened, for now, I believed it was an assassination.”
In a release by the APC, the party lamented the state of insecurity in the country and demanded that the perpetrators be made to face the law.
“The APC urges the Police and other relevant security services to fish out the killers of the Party’s Nasarawa State Chairman, Mr. Philip Shekwo who was abducted from his residence in Lafia, on Saturday night and found dead on Sunday. This is a dark day for the APC family.
“The APC condoles with the late Shekwo’s immediate family, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, the APC SWC and members over this shocking killing. We pray God grants all that grieve the strength to bear this loss and also grant the late Shekwo eternal rest.
“We urge a thorough investigation by the police and other relevant security service to quickly fish out the sponsors and perpetrators of this evil, heinous and barbaric crime and made to face the full weight of the law,” the ruling party in Nigeria wrote.
