Office theft report as Ojelabi Victor discovers missing laptops and hard drive at Lagos workplace

I, Mr Ojelabi Victor, Founder and Chief Executive of Iretura Print and Media Agency, Lagos, reported a disturbing office theft in Lagos on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, after I discovered that three unused laptops and an external hard drive were missing from my workplace.

I closed my office at about 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, after my staff had left earlier in the evening. Working late is part of my regular routine, and I personally locked the entrance door before leaving the premises, which I share with a supermarket owner.

Due to exhaustion, I went straight to bed after getting home. During the night, a client repeatedly called me to urgently complete a task. I explained that I do not take my computer system home and assured her that I would return early the next morning to complete the work.

I returned to the office very early the following morning and was shocked to find the entrance door unlocked. There were no visible signs of damage to the door, which immediately raised serious security concerns in my mind.

I carried out a quick mental audit of the office and discovered that three unused laptops were missing. The outlines of dust where the laptops had been placed were clearly visible on the table, while their chargers were left untouched. I also noticed that although my personal laptop remained in place, the external hard drive attached to it had been carefully removed and stolen.

The discovery was powerful and deeply unsettling for me, especially because there was no sign of forced entry, which led me to suspect that whoever entered the office may have had access to a key.

When I approached the neighbouring supermarket owner to ask if she had seen anything unusual, she told me that she saw a short, stocky man carrying a backpack walking towards my office and later leaving the same direction a few minutes later. She explained that she did not challenge him because she assumed he might have been acting on my instructions, as similar situations had occurred before.

I have formally reported the office theft to the police, and investigations are now ongoing. I remain deeply concerned about the motive behind the incident and the wider security risks facing small businesses operating within shared commercial spaces.
