Edo kidnap murders investigation deepens as Ogun Police arrest two suspects in Ijebu-Ode and recover police camouflage and phones

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, in connection with ongoing investigations into the kidnapping and murder of two hostages in the Okada area of Edo State.

The suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode following intelligence-led operations by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

According to police authorities, preliminary investigations linked the pair to the Edo Kidnap Murders case currently under investigation in Edo State.

The arrests followed an earlier operation by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, which led to the detention of the suspects and the commencement of further investigations by the police.

Police said extensive profiling and intelligence gathering revealed that the suspects were allegedly wanted in connection with the kidnapping and murder case reported in Okada.

Investigators further alleged that the pair are members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate believed to have participated in the crime.

During the investigation, operatives recovered one pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects.

The recovered items have been documented and taken into custody as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

The Ogun State Police Command noted that the offences being investigated occurred outside its jurisdiction and confirmed that the suspects, along with all recovered exhibits, would be transferred to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The transfer, police said, is in line with established inter-state policing procedures and cooperation among commands.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and intelligence-gathering efforts of operatives whose actions led to the identification of the suspects and the recovery of critical evidence.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s determination to prevent criminal elements from using Ogun State as a refuge or transit route for unlawful activities.

He said the police would continue to deploy intelligence-driven operations, proactive policing strategies and collaboration with other security agencies to combat crime and strengthen public safety.

The commissioner also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in tackling criminal activities.

The latest development marks a significant breakthrough in the Edo Kidnap Murders investigation as authorities intensify efforts to uncover the full network behind the alleged kidnapping syndicate.
