Three people have been killed and seven others injured in two separate road crashes along the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway and the Ota–Idiroko Road in Ogun State.
The accidents occurred on Saturday at the Kam Steel axis of the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway and the Agarawu, Winners axis of the Ota–Idiroko Road.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incidents in a traffic update.
Akinbiyi said the first accident occurred at about 4:10 pm at the Kam Steel axis, where a patrol van reportedly emerged from the Kam Steel access road onto the expressway and collided with a tricycle.
The impact caused the tricycle to somersault, killing an adult woman and leaving two other women injured.
According to the TRACE spokesperson, eight people were involved in the crash.
The injured victims were rescued and taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, while the deceased’s body was deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
In the second accident, two people, a man and a woman, died, while five others sustained injuries following a collision involving a yellow Howo truck and a TVS tricycle.
The crash occurred at about 3:25 pm at the Agarawu, Winners axis of the Ota–Idiroko Road.
Akinbiyi said preliminary eyewitness accounts indicated that the truck suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and collide with the tricycle.
He added that nine people were involved in the incident, while the injured victims had been taken to hospital before the arrival of rescue officials.
The spokesperson said relatives had claimed the body of one of the deceased, while the other was deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.
TRACE operatives, alongside personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the police, responded to both accident scenes and helped restore normal traffic flow.
The agency commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged motorists to prioritise road safety by ensuring that their vehicles were regularly serviced and properly maintained.
Akinbiyi warned that neglecting vehicle maintenance could have serious consequences for motorists, passengers and other road users.
