We watch with utmost dismay the narrative in the media surrounding the Oonirisa and his alleged estranged wife. While we respect the privacy and the rights of the ex-queen to steer her affairs in the manner she so deems fit, it is imperative to note and state that the Ooni, beyond being the traditional leader of the entire Yoruba race, is an age long institution in himself, thus the sacredness of his position and office precludes him from issues such as this. While the Ooni may not be able to make comments in the media, we will not stand by and allow the office of the Ooni and by extension, the entire Yoruba race to be denigrated.

The Ooni is the Arole Oodua, he is revered as the foremost leader of the Yoruba race. His position as representative of the gods predisposes him to various issues, the subject of which should not be exposed to public debate. The alleged ex-queen had the consciousness of what the office of the Ooni entails, and by extension, her role as the queen.

Beyond the glamour and public admiration her position entails, there are expectations and responsibilities expected of her, the minimum of which, is respect for the throne and the Yoruba kingdom.

Such denigration as the Ooni has encountered as a result of her brash public statement is almost unprecedented in the age long history of the monarchy, and it should be condemned from all quarters.

Besides, why the rush to the social media to go and wash her dirty linens in the public glare? She has the more dignified option of leaving quietly if she feels unable to cope any longer with the role of olori.

Choosing the public glare option smacks of spite and vindictiveness unbecoming of anyone who professes closeness to God almighty. Now that she has gotten her pound of flesh for whatever lapse might have occurred in her private life she should proceed with her new life without further drama.

We affirm our abiding love and support for our revered monarch and advise him to thoroughly vet and dig into the background of any woman coming into his life in the near future. Long live the Arole Oodua, long live the revered olofin adimula throne

Signed:
Comrade Razaq Oladosu
