According to a statement from the Joint Task Force North East (OPHK) Media Information Officer, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, the assaults took place between midnight and 4 am on Thursday, targeting military positions in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko within the Joint Operations Area 1.
“The terrorists launched coordinated assaults on our troops’ positions in Sectors 1 and 2, covering areas in Borno and Yobe States,” Lt.-Col. Uba said. “Our troops stood firm, fought gallantly and professionally, inflicting heavy and decisive losses on the attackers.”
The Nigerian military combined ground efforts with precision airstrikes from the OPHK Air Component, supported by Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets, to deliver overwhelming force on the terrorists.
“The coordinated ground and air operations led to the neutralisation of over 50 terrorists across all affected locations,” Uba explained.
In the aftermath of the clashes, troops recovered a large cache of weapons including 38 AK-47 rifles, seven PKT machine guns, five RPG tubes, two GPMGs, hand grenades, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
Over 70 wounded terrorists are currently being pursued by ground troops, while the Air Component maintains close air support to ensure the fleeing insurgents are completely cleared.
Intelligence reports indicated that the attackers who struck Dikwa and Gajibo came from the Cameroon axis, while those targeting Katarko emerged from the notorious Timbuktu Triangle terrorist enclave.
Despite suffering injuries and some damage to vehicles and buildings—particularly in Mafa and Dikwa, where terrorists’ RPG and drone attacks briefly breached defences—the troops maintained control of all their positions.

“The Military High Command commends the gallantry, doggedness, and renewed charge of our troops. Their steadfast performance reaffirms our unwavering resolve and capacity to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity,” the statement concluded.
