Osun PDP Tinubu endorsement

The Osun State PDP will defer to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s guidance regarding support for President Bola Tinubu’s second term, despite the state’s three PDP senators endorsing the President

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has stated that its stance on President Bola Tinubu’s potential second term will be guided by Governor Ademola Adeleke, following the decision of the state’s three PDP senators to endorse the President.

Senators Kamarudeen Oyewumi (Osun West), Olubiyi Ajagunla (Osun Central), and Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) issued a joint statement on Wednesday, declaring their full support for President Tinubu.

They cited his administration’s achievements in governance, economic reforms, and infrastructure development as reasons for their endorsement.

The senators lauded Tinubu’s administration as visionary and progressive, pointing to improvements in national security and a reduction in food prices as indicators of effective leadership.

“This endorsement is not just symbolic—it reflects our deep confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to deliver on the promise of democracy.

The Osun PDP Senators’ Caucus is united and unwavering in its support. There is no internal dissent; we stand as one,” the statement read.

Don’t forget that the governor is the leader of the party in the state. The party will also have to defer to the directive of the governor on what to do as regards supporting the incumbent president.

They also urged the President to “sustain and accelerate his developmental strides for the benefit of all Nigerians.”

However, in response to this endorsement, the Osun PDP leadership clarified that the party would await Governor Adeleke’s direction before making any formal declaration of support for Tinubu or any presidential hopeful ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Osun PDP Director of Media, Oladele Bamiji, stated that while the senators are within their rights to express their views, the party in the state will defer to the governor’s guidance.

“Don’t forget that the governor is the leader of the party in the state. The party will also have to defer to the directive of the governor on what to do as regards supporting the incumbent president,” Bamiji explained.

He further reiterated that Governor Adeleke’s position would ultimately shape the collective stance of the Osun PDP and its stakeholders.

“I am sure the governor will also consult widely with stakeholders of the party in the state and will take a collective decision together.

We are here particularly to look after the well-being of the good people of Osun State. They can be doing their thing there.

I believe whatever decisions they have taken, it is also subject to the general resolve of the party in the state under which umbrella they became Senators.

We cannot take their rights away from them as to their individual permutation or decision, but it will be subjected to the collective decision of the party and leaders of the party in the state,” Bamiji added.
