It is well known fact that Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel “OGD” is a very successful business man before venturing into politics. His company “Krestal Laurel” is an household name in sub-saharan. In the business of Elevators in this Country and Africa, it is Krestal Laurel and others.
Otunba Gbenga Daniel”OGD” a name synonymous with progress and visionary leadership in Ogun State, is seeking a second term as the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District. His distinguished career in public service has seen him excel in various roles, culminating in his current position as a voice for the people of Ogun East in the National Assembly.
Prior to his senatorial role, Otunba Daniel served as the Governor of Ogun State for eight years, leaving an indelible mark on the state’s infrastructure, economic development, and social programs. His tenure was marked by significant advancements in various sectors, establishing him as a proven leader with a commitment to improving the lives of his constituents. Here are some of OGD’s Landmark Achievements in Ogun State as Executive Governor between 2003 to 2011;
1. Built the Gateway International Stadium and Game Village, Ijebu Ode.
2. Built the Sagamu International Stadium.
3. Built the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sagamu (the best so far in the country).
4. Established the Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu Igbo.
5. Established the Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade.
6. Established the D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ewekoro LG.
7. Established the Gateway Industrial and Petrol-Gas Institute, Oni, Ogun Waterside.
8. Built Sagamu International Market. (All these 1 to 8 and many other projects by OGD were built by Local Contractors owned by Competent Engineers of Ogun State Origin, therefore keeping Ogun State money in Ogun State)
9. Conceptualized, initiated and started the Ogun State Agro-Cargo Airport, Ilisan/Iperu (appreciation to the current Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON on the landmark achievement of the completion of the Airport, this is a feat which has no doubt registered Ogun State on the nation and global aviation sector map. It takes an exemplary courage, dedication and commitment for a government to continue a project that was initiated by the previous administration, this project was abandoned for eight “8” years of the immediate Past government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun “SIA”. Kudos to PDA for this great step. OGD initiated, conceptualized and started the Airport Project in 2004)
10. Established the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu Ode (the first University of Education in Nigeria)
11. Established the Sagamu Industrial Estate Corridor “Flowergate Industrial Estate” (providing jobs for thousands of citizens in Ogun East, Ogun State and the nation at large, and also increasing the economic base of the people living around the area).
12. Established the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE), which provides jobs for citizens.
13. Employment of over 16,000 Teachers under the Voluntary Teachers Service “VTS” Scheme.
14. Doubled the Ogun State Civil Service and Local Government Service Workforce as a way of providing jobs for the army of youth in the State (many citizens are beneficiaries).
15. Initiated the Olokola Free Trade Zone, OKFTZ in Ogun Waterside with several components like OKLNG, OK Deep Seaport etc)
16. Established the Ogun State Employment Generation Program “OGEGEP” to train Artisans and also empower them to be self employed.
17. Implemented the Multi Campus System of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, with the Engineering College at Ibogun (Ogun Central), Agricultural College at Ayetoro, Yewa North (Ogun West), Health Sciences and Medical College at Ikenne and OOUTH, Sagamu respectively (Ogun East). OGD also moved OOU to its Permanent Site.
18. Established the Ogun State Agricultural and Micro Credit Agency “OSAMCA” to provide financial support to SMEs (Farmers, Market Men and Women etc)
19. Established the Ogun State Graduate Scheme “OGUNGRAD” to provide temporary jobs and financial assistance to Graduates of Ogun State Origin while they are still searching for jobs.
20. Created the Ogun State Rural Medical Program “OGRUMED”, to provide primary and secondary health care services for the citizens in rural areas of Ogun State.
21. Established the Ogun State Human Capital Development Programme “HUCAP”, under this programme all First Class Graduates of Ogun State origin were sponsored on scholarships for Post Graduate Studies in some of the best Universities in the world.
22. Organized the best National Sports Festival “The Gateway Games”, whose records are yet to be beaten years after. The first sports festival to declare profit after hosting, and the very first time the athletes from all States of the Federation were accommodated and catered for by the Host State. The game changed the total economic landscape of the State, turning the State from a sleepy civil servants State to an industrial and economic hub.
23. Established the Ogun State Electricity Project “OGSEP” that kept constant and urgent maintenance of Electricity facilities in Ogun State.
24. Established of the Ogun State Road Management Agency “OGROMA”, which tapped into local competencies and expertise in the building of Roads at the cheapest cost. OGROMA dualized the Abeokuta – Siun – Sagamu Road,
25. Under the 8 years of OGD as Governor, Local Government Elections were held twice, and the Local Government Councils were autonomous, which led to a Rapid Grassroots Development. Under OGD, Local Government Chairmen are building Schools, Hospitals, Markets, Town Halls, Hotels, Construction of Roads, Purchase of Transformers, Buying Official Cars for Political Functionaries, Career Officers, Royal Fathers etc. The economic landscape of rural areas boomed.
During the OGD era as Governor, there is no part of the State that he did not have his footprint of development (up till today go round the State, you’ll still see a lot of Projects tagged “OGD Team in Action”)
In his current role as Senator, Otunba Daniel has continued to demonstrate his dedication to serving the people of Ogun East.
